FILIPINO
Replies #1
So, we learned a lot of questions in greetings. You must have learned that Filipinos often greet with a question like "Kumain ka na?" or "Kagigising mo lang?" or "Anong ginagawa mo?"
But I didn't teach you how to answer...yet. In this lesson, we will learn some useful replies. ^^
*note: traces of "po" again, it makes the response polite
Yes and No
Opo - polite way of saying 'yes'
Oo - to your friends / casual.
Hindi po - polite way of saying "no"
** 'di po - a shorter, but still polite way of saying 'no'
Hindi - casual "no"
** 'di - shorter
Not yet
Hindi pa po. / 'di pa po
Hindi pa. / 'di pa
How about you? *repeat the question*
Kayo po?
Ikaw?
'kaw
**Example on *reply, how about you?*
Have you eaten?
P Kumain na po ba kayo? / Kumain na po kayo?
C Kumain ka na ba? / Kumain ka na?
--> Opo, kayo po? (polite)
--> Oo, ikaw? (to younger, casual)
A review on greetings + responses:
Good morning.
Magandang umaga po.
Magandang umaga.
If you want to say "too"
Magandang umaga rin po.
Magandang umaga rin.
Take care.
Ingat po kayo.
Ingat.
If you want to say "too"
Ingat rin po kayo.
Ingat ka rin.
Or you can repeat their sentences.
**rin is used when the word before it ends in a vowel.
**din is used if the word before it ends in a consonant.
