Common Phrases #2 Don't know / understand
Hello everyone. Kumusta po kayo?
Today we will study how to say phrases about "not knowing". This is useful when you have no idea what the other person is talking about (or if you're lazy to think of a logical answer.)
*Useful tip: If the person bugging you is getting on your nerves, you can say these in a serious tone. He/She would stop bugging you unless he/she can't read between the lines.
I don't know.
Hindi ko po alam.
Hindi ko alam.
I know nothing.
Wala po akong alam.
Wala akong alam.
I don't know yet.
Hindi ko pa po alam.
Hindi ko pa alam.
I don't understand.
Hindi ko po maintindihan.
Hindi ko maintindihan.
How can you say these in a friendly way?
1. Use a friendly, polite tone.
2. Use "eh", "ah" or add 'sorry'.
Hindi ko alam eh...
Wala akong alam eh...
Hindi ko maintindihan eh..
Sorry, hindi ko alam...
Hindi ko alam, sorry ah...
*Eh and Ah don't mean anything. They just make you sound a little friendly.
Really casual phrases (use with friends or enemies only)
Malay ko / Malay (I am unaware / How should I know?)
Ewan ko. / Ewan. *i'm not sure where this came from*
