Greetings #1



Before we start, I'd like to introduce "po" and "kayo", "sila".
Po, is used in a sentence when talking to older people as respect.
It cannot be inserted in any part of the sentence, I'll give examples.
Kayo and Sila, is you in plural form, but it used when talking to older people.


(P) polite / for older people, (C) casual, (VC) very casual / shortened


Good morning.
Magandang umaga po.
Magandang umaga.


*Good noon
Magandang tanghali po.
Magandang tanghali.


Good afternoon.
Magandang hapon po.
Magandang hapon.


Good evening.
Magandang gabi po.
Magandang gabi.


Goodbye.
Paalam po.
Paalam.


Take care.
Ingat po kayo.
Ingat.


How are you?
P Kumusta po kayo?
C Kumusta ka? / Kumusta?
CV 'musta?


How are you now / recently?
P Kumusta na po kayo?
C Kumusta ka na? / Kumusta na?
CV 'musta na?


*kumusta, as you've guessed came from "¿cómo estás?"




Who is it? (on the phone, or asking a person knocking)
P Sino po sila? / Sino po kayo?
C Sino 'yan? (not for the phone)
C Sino 'to? (for the phone/websites/blogs)


Have you eaten?
P Kumain na po ba kayo? / Kumain na po kayo?
C Kumain ka na ba? / Kumain ka na?


*ba makes a statement a question. Without it, you should make sure you're using a "question" tone.
  
You just woke up?
P Kakagising niyo lang po ba? / Kakagising niyo lang po?
C Kakagising mo lang ba? / Kakagising mo lang?


Are you still up?
P Gising pa po ba kayo? / Gising pa po kayo?
C Gising ka pa ba? / Gising ka pa?


*pa means "still"


Were you long here? 
(when meeting somebody, and you're late, or they're just plain early)
P Kanina pa po ba kayo? / Kanina pa po kayo?
C Kanina ka pa ba? / Kanina ka pa?


or you could say this (but it's long)
Have you been waiting for a long time?
Kanina pa po ba kayong naghihintay?
Kanina ka pa bang naghihintay?
Kanina ka pa naghihintay? 


What are you doing?
P Ano pong ginagawa niyo?
C Anong ginagawa mo?
